Did you know that throws are back and if your living room doesn’t have one, it’s missing a trick? Once the reserve of student houses to cover the tired old sofa and best-not-to-ask-stains, the Hygge phenomenon has brought cosiness and comfort back into our design schemes and we couldn’t be happier about it. Hygge is a Scandinavian lifestyle trend and refers to the feeling of wellness and contentment that comes from cosy comfort. Think soft lighting, nights in front of a roaring fire and scented candles. Although the term relates to a whole culture, it has particularly influenced home décor.
From a practical point of view, throws can indeed give a new lease of life to a sofa that has lived its best days but for 21st century purposes, they have become a design feature in their own right. Hygge is the polar opposite to minimalism and is all about adding layers and elements that provide warmth and comfort so throws fit perfectly into this vision.
Use them to add character and style to your room. Bold patterns can add interest to a room but soft, muted tones fit well into the Hygge aesthetic. You can really use them to express your personality and they’re also much easier to change than a sofa so you can ring the changes fairly regularly if you want to. This can be a great way of marking the change in season, both in terms of your colour and pattern choices and in the fabrics you choose: something light and cool for summer and warm and snuggly for winter.
What’s cosier than a throw? A heated throw!
Don’t think of throws as just a visual design feature, consider the comfort element too. In winter, a throw is perfect for snuggling down into on the sofa and will give you extra warmth on cold evenings. A heated throw is the pinnacle of this; uber Hygge if you like! Working in the same way as an electric blanket, there’s no need to wait for bed with a heated throw. You can use them on sofas or armchairs (and you can still take them up to bed with you as well).
Form follows function, but there’s no compromise on style with a heated throw as they are available in soft, muted tones such as blush pink, lilac grey and a deeper French grey and of course they are made of cosy, warm fleece fabric. See a selection here. Team them with cushions in Scandi-inspired patterns picking out the pinks and greys of the throws.

You don’t need to; just don’t turn them on! They look great so even if you’re not using them for heat, they still add something to your design scheme.
