It’s a new year and that means it’s a new year for trends - and home décor is no different. Last year we saw velvet, floral and copper everywhere, especially on Instagram and in-home décor magazines. We’re not suggesting that these are now ‘out’ and won’t still look amazing for the new year, but if you’re fancying a change or are intrigued to see what you’ll find in the shops this year, here’s what’s set to be big in 2020:
Geometric Patterns
Geometric patterns started to appear towards the end of 2019 – especially on bathroom and kitchen tiles. They’re said to be a huge trend in 2020, whether that be in tiles, rugs, cushions or even wallpaper. So, if you got on the trend last year, you can be sure it’ll be a trendsetter this year as well.
Abstract Prints
Abstract prints are everywhere at the minute. They’ve been seen in prints, clothing, jewellery, cushions… even tattoos! They’re great because they’re minimalist and are often monochrome, meaning that they’ll go in any room – even those with a bright or patterned colour scheme. We’re sure they’ll be in all of the online and in-store home décor shops this year – so keep a lookout!
Pink, Pink, Pink
It seems that after last year’s pink frenzy, pink isn’t going anywhere. We all seemed to go mad for baby pink last year, with people using different baby pink accessories in their bathroom, bedroom and living room to add the pop of colour. It was seen complimenting grey and cream most of the time – especially in bathrooms and living rooms.
Texture
If you’re looking for a way to make somewhere in your home look more interesting – it’s all about texture. Whether you add different styles of cushions and throws or invest in a new sofa or chair, try and clash the textures. So, if you have a leather sofa, add some furry cushions or teddy-bear throws to it. This not only makes the space look much more interesting, but it also helps the space feel cosier – perfect for this time of year!
Sustainability – Shop Smart
2019 definitely saw a huge increase in sustainable shopping. This is set to be no different this year, especially in the home décor world. With clashing colours and prints becoming increasing popular, as well as vintage styles, many of us are now shopping in vintage shops or charity shops to find those unique pieces. This not only ensures that you’re sourcing your home décor pieces ethically, but it will also guarantee that you have a unique and one-of-a-kind addition to your home.
